Weave Kindness

Let’s Create!!

This is just a recommendation. It is entirely up to you how you would like to pace your project.

Week 1 – Learn the basics

Spend the first week learning the basics of crochet. Practice makes us perfect!

Foundation chain and single crochet

Learn to start the project by making the foundation chain. Start by practicing single crochet.

To do – cast on 12 chains and make 12 rows of single crochet (approx 3.5in x 3.5in). Use this as a coaster.

Counting rows

Counting rows is very essential to any crochet project. Counting and measuring go hand in hand and are the only way to make sure you are making the right size.

Counting stitches

Counting is essential to every crochet project to make sure you are creating the right size item.

You can skip the magic circle and double crochet sections and proceed to the new super simple crochet project.

Double crochet

Learn the double crochet stitch. We will use this for most of the project.

To do – cast on 16 chains and make 10 rows of double crochet (approx 3.5in x 3.5in). Use this as a coaster.

Magic circle

This is a wonderful pattern to learn as you can use this to make circular items such as flowers, toys, and more. Practice using this video before starting your project.

To do – make 3 magic circles of double crochet using the tutorial. Bind them using the same technique as in the single crochet video and use them to decorate a pillow cover or attach to a plain headband!

Fix crochet mistakes

Dropped stitches, extra stitches, tight stitches, and some unique mistakes will all be a part of the learning process. Just frog the crochet (yes, undoing crochet is called frogging!) till your mistake and continue crocheting.

The process may be tedious and frustrating at times but don’t worry, we have a special friend for you to help you through these frustrating moments. Use the poop emoji toy and take a photo of your oops moment with it and post it on the Weave Kindness Facebook group and/or Instagram page. You will be surprised to know there are others who are learning by making the same mistakes over and over again!
