Weave Kindness

Summer of Learning – Knitting Project

Welcome to the knitting world! Knitting is a beautiful craft that can be used to make many items right from blankets to hats to toys. We will begin our learning journey with the basics – the knit stitch also known as the garter stitch. This is an easy basic stitch that we will use to create a cute baby hat with bunny ears. This is a fun project where we will learn how to cast stitches on to your needles, and then creating rows of knit stitches. Most importantly, we will learn about making mistakes and how to fix them. We will learn patience, persistence, and resilience.

Yarn

Your kit has two skeins (balls) of yarn of different colors. This yarn is machine washable, hypoallergenic, and soft for babies.

There is plenty of yarn to practice and create. You can create one hat or two. We just ask that you send us at least one for giving.

Knitting Needles

The kit has US size 10 (6mm diameter) knitting needles. These bamboo needles are great for beginners as they are safe, lightweight, and don’t allow the stitches to slide off easily.

Measuring tape

It is highly recommended to keep measuring your project as you go to make sure your knitting isn’t too tight or too loose or you haven’t dropped stitches on the way.

Tapestry Needle

Use this needle to stitch in any unused yarn at the end of your project. The thick colorful plastic needle is safe and easy to find on any surface.
